For our May meeting we will be discussing Njörðr. Njörðr is a god that came from the Vanir and is generally associated with the sea. He is also the husband of Skaði, and father of Freyr and Freyja.
Our primary sources and readings for this topic are:
Poetic Edda
Vafþrúðnismál, stanza 39
Grímnismál, stanza 16
Lokasenna, stanzas 33 - 36
Prose Edda
Gylfaginning, chapter 23 & 24
Skáldskaparmál, Beginning - Ægir asking about Þjazi, and chapter 6. Feel free to read further in Skáldskaparmál for many smaller references via kennings, but it probably isn't essential reading.
There is a good deal more that can be dug up on this topic and I would recommend taking a stab at further research on an individual basis so we can come together to share a greater wealth of information with one another.
(Edited to reschedule around Mother's Day in hopes of being as accessible as possible)
We will aim to meet via Skype on the 3rd Sunday of the month (5/17/2020) with the primary discussion / public portion of the meeting starting around 5:30 PM. The Skype code to attend this meeting will be: https://join.skype.com/LtLbX05Vbx9p
Sounds good! Looking forward to this.
