Learn More About the Old Norse Religion
Keeper of Seasons Hall practices the Old Norse religion and Scandinavian folk religion that today we know as Asatru. We welcome everyone to our Hall to learn more about Asatru.
Keeper of the Seasons Hall was founded in 1998. Keeper of the Seasons Hall uses “Hall” instead of other terms such as Kindred because we intentionally wanted to eschew the artificial family model associated with those. The image of a “hall” matches the literature from which we draw much of Asatru.
You are welcome to join us at our Hall and learn more about the Old Norse religion and how it is still relevant to culture today.
Asatru is the modern envisioning of the Scandinavian folk religion. This religion deals with the Germanic people of pre-Christian Europe. The pre-Christian period is a wide range of time that is defined as the time before a particular Germanic group converted to Christianity. Icelandic peoples, for example, only converted to Christianity in the year 1,000 CE.
Relatedly, the term Germanic needs to be clarified. Germanic is a term used to describe the historic peoples of northern Europe. While their cultures are incredibly diverse, they share common threads in both culture and language that tie them together into a larger group that is identified as “Germanic.”
Keeper of Seasons Hall is a non-hierarchical group dedicated to learning more about these old religions and the people who held them. Our group is also dedicated to the purposeful reconstruction and revival of these faiths known today as Asatru. We hold monthly meetings that are open to the public. We do not tolerate hatred, bigotry, or discrimination of any kind. You are welcome to join our Hall.
