Keeper of Seasons Hall met on July 1 to hold its 2007 Midsummer’s Blót. We met much earlier than usual in order to escape the worst of the summer heat. Though Albuquerque had been experiencing its usual summer warmth and dry weather recently, the grasses and other plants of the foothills were still pleasantly green and, in many places, still in bloom. Unfortunately, the vibrant life of the area included large numbers of gnats, which would make their presence known the entire time the Hall met.
After everyone was present and accounted for at the parking lot of a foothills trailhead, the group made its way to a spot that Keeper of Seasons had used before, a holy location bounded by rocks suitable for leaving offerings; it is simultaneously open and contained by its surroundings, and its distance away from well-travelled trails gives a sense of privacy while providing a great view of the area. Erich ably led the blót, announcing its purpose and hailing the powers of the season. Then, each member made personal hails, and the remainder of the mead was poured in offering. Afterwards, to avoid the gnats and heat as possible, we decided to not linger, agreeing to meet again the following Sunday for our usual monthly public meeting.
