With Pete needing to leave soon for training to deploy to Iraq, Keeper of Seasons Hall met on April 11, 2009 for a combination spring and victory blót. The weather during the days was still shifting back and forth from warm spring to lingering winter, but we were done with overnight freezes. In order to include as many Hall members and family as possible, including those who were getting over illnesses or recovering from triathlon participation, and to avoid any possible rain or hail, we decided to meet at one of our member’s homes and have a blót and potluck there. Debbie and I had the honor of hosting the event.
Once everyone had arrived, we ate and socialized for a time. During a clear spot in the weather, we went outside for our blót. Pete led the ritual, thanking Hall members for their presence and support, hailing the gods, and asking Odin and other powers for victory and help in finding in himself what was needed to serve well. After Pete was finished speaking, each Hall member made a personal hail; in addition to hailing the landvættir and powers of the season, many hails were made to Thor, Tyr, Odin, various of the Disir and ancestors, and similar wights, asking that Pete be given their blessings for the time ahead. When everyone had made their hails, the remainder of the mead was poured in libation over the hörgr near my house, and we returned inside to continue eating, drinking, and sharing each other’s company for a few hours.
May Master Sergeant Jeffrey Peterson have the best of luck in the months ahead. He is a man of intelligence, honor, and discipline, and I am sure he will be successful in his endeavors, returning with much to boast of during sumbel. He will be in our thoughts and prayers during his absence.
