For its last official blót of the year, Keeper of Seasons Hall met on December 21, 2008 to celebrate the opening of the Yule season. Though the Hall normally holds its blóts outdoors, Yule is usually an exception; as in previous years, we met at the home of one of the Hall members. For 2008, I had the honor of acting as host for the Hall.
Because we were meeting near the opening of Yule, we decided to devote our ceremony to the Disir, recognizing their importance in the shaping of our lives and our society. Erich led the blót, and then individual hall members made personal hails. In keeping with the purpose of our Disablót, many hails were made to maternal ancestors, as well as Freyja, Frigga, Skaði, and certain others of the Ásynjur; in recognition of the season in general, there were also a number of hails to the Alfar, Odin, Ullr, and similar powers. At the conclusion of the blót, a small amount of mead was left for the husvættir, and the remainder was poured outside over the hörgr near my house.
Following the offering, we returned inside to share food, drink, and good companionship, and there was much of each to be had. After several hours, we parted ways, wishing each other a blessed Yuletide season.
